Book Review: Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert

Just finished this book. It took me a while to get through it. I read this straight after ‘Eat, Love, Pray’ and this book is not a novel. It is more a book about historical and cultural facts about marriage.

Elizabeth and her fiancee are being denied to live in the USA. They need to get married so that they can live together in America. Getting married again is a difficult step for both of them, as they have both been married before, but if they want to live in the United States they have to be married.

The book looks at marriage throughout the ages and different cultures. It’s very interesting to learn about this. It appears that it is very much a ‘western worldly’ thing to get married for love.

I enjoyed this book as it is very historical and also made me think about my own life. Having recently got divorced it gives me many thinking points on what to do better next time. The book is very factual.
